Episode 1: Petit Pli

The first episode of Nation of Artisans explores Petit Pli, a London-based company using origami-inspired engineering and advanced materials to create clothing that grows with children.

Petit Pli represents exactly the kind of innovation The British Cræft Prize seeks to celebrate: a deep understanding of material behaviour — in this case, the ancient craft of pleating and folding — combined with cutting-edge engineering to solve a real problem.

Founded by Ryan Mario Yasin, an aeronautical engineer, Petit Pli creates garments that use a patented pleating structure to grow with the wearer. The result is clothing that lasts longer, reduces waste, and reimagines the relationship between maker, material, and user.

This is heritage craft wisdom meeting advanced technology — origami principles, textile craft, and computational design fused into something genuinely new.
